Printer not printing
Windows
Printer Offline
There are two reasons why a printer would report as offline;
- The printer has been turned off or the power cable has been knocked out
- Ethernet cable has been unplugged / network connectivity issues prevent your computer from seeing the printer
First, ensure the printer is powered on and plugged in both at the printer and the wall. An easy way to check the printer is powered on is by checking the display panel. Some printers may display a message saying Power Save Mode this is normal and means the printer is powered on, it is just sleeping until something needs printing.
If the printer is powered on but still not printing make sure the ethernet cable is plugged into the printer and the wall, it may also be necessary to wait a few moments for the printer to re-connect to the network before the print jobs will resume. If all the cables appear to be in the right place make sure your wi-fi is connected on your laptop or if you're on a desktop ensure that your ethernet cable is not only plugged into your computer but also the wall.
Driver update needed
Occasionally we may need to publish updates to our printers, this can result in this message showing on the printer instead of it saying Online when printing, it will typically only happen on FollowYouPrinting and FollowYouPrintingColour.
- Click on the start button and type
run
- In the run box that has opened type
control printers
- Right click on the printer that is the problem and click Update Driver
Mac
Paused Job
If a job is paused there are typically two main causes for this:
- There is a jam in the printer causing all future jobs to be paused
- The printer was paused on the local computer and needs to be resumed
The first thing to check is the printer to make sure there are no jams in it, if there is a jam the instructions for clearing it will be displayed on the display on the printer.
If there was no jam you will need to resume the printer on your local computer, to do this open up the printer status app that opens when you submit a print job and make sure the paused button isn't clicked.
Hold for Authentication
This means that your computer has lost connection to our printing server or you've recently changed your password.
To fix this open finder then on the menu strip at the top of the Mac click on Go then Connect to Server enter in smb://volga
in the path you're wanting to connect to, from there enter your Network username/password, then click Cancel you don't need to connect to any share.
